19/1-8/8 2018 In 2018, the American Swedish Institute will present a suite of exhibitions and programs exploring the theme, The Handmade. These projects delve into relevant and timely issues increasingly reflected in the handmade forum - from the old world to the new, and from the traditional to the contemporary, examining intersections among local and global, identity, heritage and sustainability.
The 1980s became a beneficial decade for Swedish glass. Demand increased and a large amount of government funds were given to the glass industry. At the same time, the Swedish krona was also devalued, favoring the export of large quantities of glass products. The 1980s were also the decade when the studio glass got its breakthrough, the strong colors and geometric shapes made its mark and the concept of the Kingdom of Crystal was launched.
In the neon park located in Boda Glasbruk the results of the integration project “Hej!” in Emmaboda Municipality is shown. Different groups of people have contributed to the project: newly arrived refugees, residents of Boda Glasbruk, and active practitioners within the field of glass who have previously worked in Boda.
